Lagos Police Nab Suspected Cyber Fraud Ring

Nigeria’s Police Force Zone 2 Command has apprehended three individuals in Lagos, accusing them of involvement in a sophisticated cyber fraud syndicate. According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Gbenga Afolayan, the arrests stem from intensified efforts to combat cybercrime and related offenses across Lagos and Ogun states. Operatives from the Zonal Intelligence Department (ZID) executed a coordinated raid in the Lekki-Ajah area on January 7, 2025, following actionable intelligence.

The operation led to the capture of suspects aged 24, 33, and 36. Initial reports suggest the youngest suspect, intercepted while driving a luxury vehicle, was subsequently linked to cybercrime activities. A subsequent search of his residence reportedly uncovered evidence leading to the arrest of the other two suspects. Police investigations point to the trio playing distinct roles within an organized cyber fraud network. Authorities allege the 24-year-old coordinated operations and managed fraudulent accounts, while the 33-year-old handled financial transactions and the collection of proceeds.
