Gmail E2EE Now Native on Mobile for Enterprise Users

Cyber Threat Intelligence reports that Google has expanded its end-to-end encryption (E2EE) capabilities for Gmail, bringing native support to both Android and iOS mobile devices. This move aims to simplify secure email communication for enterprise users, allowing them to compose and read encrypted messages directly within the Gmail app without needing separate tools or web portals. According to the report, this feature, powered by client-side encryption (CSE), is now available for users with Enterprise Plus licenses and specific add-ons, provided their administrators enable the mobile clients.

Recipients of these E2EE messages will receive them as standard emails within the Gmail app if they are also Gmail users. For those using other email services or clients, the encrypted messages can be accessed via a web browser, ensuring broader compatibility. Google’s announcement highlights the integration of high-level privacy with a user-friendly experience, extending secure email capabilities to a wide range of organizations, from small businesses to public sector entities.

This rollout follows Google’s earlier announcement in October 2025, which enabled enterprise Gmail users to send end-to-end encrypted emails to recipients on any platform. To send an E2EE message, users simply need to select the “Additional encryption” option and click the lock icon when composing an email within Gmail.

What This Means For You

  • Security professionals should verify that their organization's Google Workspace licenses and administrative settings are correctly configured to leverage Gmail's E2EE features for mobile devices, ensuring that sensitive communications are adequately protected beyond the desktop environment.
